In late December 2025, A paper focused on the Resilient Restoration project was published in Ecology and Evolution: Volume 15, Issue 12. “Climate Transformation and Stewardship: Reflections on Meaningful Collaboration to Support Indigenous-Led Research” thoughtfully illustrates the importance of relationships, respect, and reciprocity in community collaborations and climate research highlighting the importance of Indigenous informed and led research collaborations t and stewardship projects to advance climate adaptation.

Resilient Restoration: Advancing Ecological, Cultural, and Community Resilience with Tribal Nations in Southern California was intentionally designed using a framework of Indigenous community-led transformational climate adaptation through collaboration with the Climate Science Alliance (Alliance), the Alliance’s Tribal Working Group, San Diego State University, and University of California Riverside. The Resilient Restoration project has led to broader collaborations where Tribal partners are implementing Indigenous stewardship practices on the ground—including those supported through the Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformation and Stewardship (CNNCTS)—informed in part by this collaboration.

CNNCTS partners Dr. Megan Jennings, Dr. Amber Pairis, Althea Walker, William Madrigal Jr., Diane Terry, Joelene Tamm, Connor Magee, Alexandra Hoff, Brooke M. Rose, Gregory A. Backus, Dr. Clarissa Rodriguez, Dr. Lluvia Flores-Renteria, Dr. Janet Franklin, and Dr. Helen M. Regan co-authored the paper “Climate Transformation and Stewardship: Reflections on Meaningful Collaboration to Support Indigenous-Led Research.”
