Research Collaborations
As part of our work to “Translate Knowledges into Practice", a data visualization and access portal is in development by CNNCTS partners to foster community networking and information sharing. In addition, CNNCTS partners continue to collaborate on hands-on experiential learning opportunities for students and community members through Stewardship Living Labs.
In November of 2023, participants of the 2023 Santa Barbara TREX training developed their firefighting skills on the UC Santa Barbara Sedgwick Reserve for eight days. “This TREX, short for Prescribed Fire Training Exchanges, was held to build capacity for community-based burning by promoting ecological health while meeting cultural, training, and wildfire mitigation goals.” Learn more.

The Stewardship Living Labs—"Living Labs" for short— are located on 10 research reserves managed by partners at San Diego State University (SDSU), the University of California at Riverside (UCR), and the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB).

The “Living Labs” session in the CNNCTS Community Conversations webinar series highlighted the CNNCTS "Translate Knowledges to Practice" area of focus. This session featured speakers from natural reserves and programs that provide university students and community members with hands-on learning and opportunities to test adaptation strategies. Hear from reserve managers about the ongoing projects and research at key sites, bridging knowledge and practice for environmental stewardship.
