Role in CNNCTS

Through their Natural Reserve System network, UC Santa Barbara will support community learning with students and Tribal partners, primarily at Sedgwick Reserve, where they have an ongoing collaboration focused on prescribed burn research with the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Environmental Office and many other partners. They will also facilitate education and outreach activities concerning climate and environmental research and stewardship projects at Sedgwick and Santa Cruz Island Reserves. They may also support fellows with an interest in stewardship or research activities at participating reserves.

UCSB Natural Reserve System

The UC Natural Reserve System is a network of 41 protected natural areas. Located throughout the ancestral homelands of Indigenous peoples in California and managed by UCSB, the reserves provide protected environments for research, education and public service activities.
